I had been a writer, sound artist and curator for over a decade when my visual art practice arrived, fully formed. I create using the same poetic approach devised in my writing, which in turn evolved through my sound, and appears here in paint. What appears abstract, is actual. I began with a mound of paints and rubbish that filled my house following two art project closures and the ending of a painful relationship. I felt dumped on and polluted, and had to make art out of those shadows. Each painting weaves found materials and debris from the topic, the time, or the trauma i am exploring (sometimes all three) and wefts personal artefacts, ephemera, my poetry and journal instincts, and composes through flow a knowing that exists in the back of my brain through somatic processing a painting which is wholly right within itself.
Some of my pieces are available to own, AND some contain artefacts far too personal to ever pass on.
I have exhibited my work at:
Henrikks
The Tallyrand
The Peer Hat
Unitarian Church, Todmorden, for the Unterranean Festival
The Nico Ditch
